Optimal dose of resistance training for longevity?

What do you think about this study?

Is the optimal dose of resistance training for longevity 130-140 minutes of resistance training per week?

Are there other studies in this area?

While we would agree that there is a non-linear relationship regarding RT volume and health benefits, we would not agree with the characterization as a J-curve. Rather, we think that the evidence mostly points towards a dose-dependent improvement in health with more lifting, all else being equal. The biggest issue with the study cited is the few studies (~6 if I recall off hand) and methodological issues in documenting both volume and health outcomes. I do not think it’s a reasonable conclusion that increased RT volume worsens health outcomes, though I do think ~ an hour to 90-minutes per week would give the majority of health benefits for most individuals.
