I am 28, pretty significantly overweight (5’11, 360lb) and about 4 years ago my right knee subluxated during an athletic activity, I was about 240lb at that time. The activity was warlike medieval fighting. Think football with swords shields and armor. I could barely walk for a couple days and was very sore.
I was poor and never got anything done, just tried to live with it. I got a brace which helped, But it consistently was popping out of place and messing me seemingly no matter how cautious I tried to during the activity. It didn’t happen every time, but often enough to be annoying.
fastforward to today. I know about Starting Strength but haven’t done it yet, because I keep going back and forth on just losing weight first or getting g started with SSLP and slowly lose weight during SSLP. I am very busy and just haven’t made it a priority yet. I finally have been setup with a PCP who thinks BOTH my knees just aren’t tracking right because when I fully extend there’s aclicking feeling at the top. I might have explained that poorly but that’s the gist of what I understood. He advised me to see a PT to get corrective exercises as an aside from also obviously getting the weight off.
I’m a bit worried about squatting with this issue but I also totally believe SS that most PT’s have no idea what they’re doing. So mostly I’m wondering if SSLP will fix this issue or just not sure what to do or what other information you guys might need. Should I just focus on losing weight first?
