Summary: Reaching out to seasoned professionals on the possible educational materials in English and Spanish I can hand out to patients.
Thanks in part to Barbell Medicine to inspire me to keep on the path, I am now starting as a resident intern in a family medicine residency program. I am working on building a library of patient education materials I can hand out and talk about during visits. What educational materials like pamphlets can look into sharing with my patients on some of the bread-and-butter topics here? The majority of my patients will speak English and Spanish.
I know about the ACSM physical activity handouts. I used these a lot during my pediatrics rotations and FM sub-internships and will be using them still. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find these in Spanish anymore.
One of the reasons I ask is because the default patient education materials for chronic low back pain is a totally noceboing “KEEP YOUR BACK STRAIGHT” kind of thing. No recommendations for returning to activity as soon as possible. Hoping someone out there has good patient education materials.
bump, same situation, tired of listening to weak attendings encourage patients to stay weak and fear movement. the sports medicine patient advisor is recommended, ive never actually seen anyone copy the pages to handout, though thats the intent of the book. The Sports Medicine Patient Advisor, 3rd Edition
my go to is sharing links to videos or websites that i use, especially for the motivated health literate athlete populations
i have debated making a template with my recommended reading and resources to send via portal as patient instructions
