Plateauing only one lift in Beginner Template

Been running the Beginner Template since coming back from covid gym lockdowns (probably about September 2020). Previously, I’ve been recovering from a long term wrist tendinopathy, as well as some reason knee issues, both of which are mostly in the rearview. The progression for all pressing and squatting has been slow but fairly consistent, and I don’t see any reason to move to a different program for those lifts.

However, (conventional) deadlift has gotten stuck. It’s the only lift that I haven’t had to adjust, so it makes sense that it’s the one that’s currently spinning the wheels. Did about 5-6 weeks of the stage 3 (1 @8, 5@9, 24@76%) and haven’t been able to get anywhere with it. Right now the other movements have been deficit deadlifts and Pendlay rows. I looked at the Bridge to see what the deadlift programming was for that but it looks to be a lower volume version of the same thing.

Any suggestions? My initial thought was to switch deadlift out entirely for a few weeks (probably to a trap bar or sumo), or perhaps keep a closer deadlift variation (paused?), but not sure if that’s the move. Is there anything you’ve used for trainees in a similar situation that has worked in the past? Thanks for the help.

You could do 2ct paused or an overload variant for your primary supplemental deadlift and then SLDL or RDL for your secondary supplemental pull. If that doesn’t work, I’d probably just move on in programming unless there’s some blatant technique issue going on.

Got it, thank you. This is to get more specific volume in, right?

Yes, exactly.
