Is the beginner template right for me?

I have been off for a couple of weeks and was experiencing some shoulder pain after benching and pressing on Powerbuilding 1. The RDL’s had some pain in the upper glute after adding that volume. Off because of a minor illness not the pain. Looking back I think I cut my LP short mainly because of technique issues. I have been focusing more on hand placement and keeping the upper body tight in the squat. I noticed after filming that my wrist where bending and even grip just barely holding on the descent and moving my hands more over the bar on the ascent. My LP problems of not lining up right consistently in the DL are fixed. I am also trying to cut below 40" waist and drop from about 32% BF to 20%.

With the time off and the need to work on form and maybe having not been ready for the volume, I thought going back to beginner might be the right template. Lifts aren’t really impressive for someone supposedly past beginner either.
Estimated 1 Rep Max weight in pounds
Squat 315
DL 340
Bench 212
OPH 160
Age 47
67" tall
Weight 228 (down from 265)

The legacy 4 day hypertrophy and powerbuilding 1 template started problems that seem to be related to volume and probably some form I need to work on. Endurance didn’t seem to have the same problems.

Is going back to beginner maybe the right template? I suppose I could try the legacy endurance again since I didn’t have problems. I also have the new endurance but haven’t ran it. My thinking was going back to the basics and working on form some more might be the right thing to do.

Anyway, just curious if this is a good way to look at or if maybe just the lower volume endurance might be better. For now, I just want to cut and focus on getting form right so I can do the strength 1 and hopefully the press (strenghlift) template sometime in the longer term. Trying not rush to max lifts like I did in the past.

JJW,

Thanks for this and I hope you’re doing well otherwise. I would probably do the Beginner Template, as I want to be sure you’re prepared for the workload of any of the other templates you mention. I think with the time off and your reported training history, the beginner template starting on phase II would be the way to go.
