Protein Synthesis post workout

I looked through about 25 pages of the forum before posting, so apologies if this has been answered and I missed it.

I’ve heard, and read, that simple carbs combined with protein post workout increases protein synthesis. I’m less asking a question and more asking for an elaboration on to why that is? I’m more than willing to read any links you post, which I realize now I admittedly did not search for. I’ve seen a few of your articles from 2012 about post workout shakes and you seemed to nod in the simple carbs post workout direction too.

To clarify, how/why do/does simple carbohydrates post workout increase protein synthesis? Scientifically speaking. This is purely for the furthering of my own knowledge.

Carbohydrates can be synergistic with protein as far as driving MPS through insulin-mediated mechanisms. That said, protein alone can maximize MPS post workout and carbohydrates aren’t needed for this purpose, though ingestion of carbohydrates and additional calories can be useful for other purposes.

I would not routinely recommend simple carbohydrates post workout for any particular reason.
