Hey guys! I am 6’7 242 lbs with a background of strentgth training. A couple weeks ago I injured my leg because I suddenly increased my running volume (from not running at all to running 3 times a week). From the 2nd week my tibia started to hurt, but I tried to ignore it (I know, a bad decision). Today I went to an ortho and I presented him the history. He palpated my tibia and he found a tender point on it, approx. 10 cm below my knee, which is the exact point on my tibia where it hurts when I walk. When I press on it it feels a bit inflamed and also a bit warm. He also said that my knee is ok when he looked on my MRI, which I did a couple weeks ago. He ordered an x ray of my tibia, which I will do next days, in order to see if there is a microfracutre there and told me to stop running/jumping for a month. He also said that lifting weights is okay but just for my upper body and when I asked him about walking around he said that I should limit daily steps as much as I can. Also, he said that if the x ray won’t show nothing, he will order an MRI and if symtpoms won’t improve he said that Ozonetherapy and PRP would help my microfracture heal. Do studies on this exist? Do those kind of “interventions” help or are they a waste of money? What would you recommend to your patients who got a stress fracture in their tibia? Or is it possible to even be a stress fracture?
