Qualifying Fiber Sources

Greetings Dr. Feigenbaum Ana hope you’re well.

Should I be counting the grams of fiber only present in foods as a result of added sugar alcohols (sorbitol, xylitol, erythritol, etc.)?

My goal is to eat 40gr + of fiber per day, while keeping sugars at <35 gr/day (for improved lipidology). I’m able to comply with this by eating lots of whole grains, legumes, and fruits/veggies. However, I also eat a lot of foods sweetened artificially, and concerned that maybe I shouldn’t be considering these sugar alcohols in my daily fiber goal calculations??

Thanks as always!!

Stay safe.

Hey Lee,

I would just count everything and see where you end up, particularly in the case of someone eating lots of whole grains, legumes, and fruit/veg.
