Question about valsalva

Hi docs, I know that there are very few occasions where a valsava would be advised against but my professor consistently claims that someone with high blood pressure should avoid the valsalva. He doesn’t go into any detail behind his claim but he does say that he would not coach someone with high blood pressure to use a valsalva and that a coach who does is being somewhat irresponsible.
My question is if there is any reason to believe that a valsalva would be dangerous for a client with high blood pressure or if his claim is just nonsense.
thank you

I would simply ask him for evidence on the matter, as I am unaware of any showing it to be dangerous in that scenario … even though it “seems” like it should make sense.

High blood pressure causes its complications chronically, over years. Sudden, acute blood pressure fluctuations are generally not of concern in the absence of symptoms or complications (a discussion of this topic in the context of clinical medicine can be found here: x.com )

Thanks for the response Baraki
