Questions regarding the bridge

Hi all, a few questions regarding the bridge:

  1. should deadlift variations be done beltless same as squat variations?
  2. i there a way of calculating RPE for variations, i.e say deadlift is 100kg for 5 at RPE 8, roughly what weight should be used for 5 at rpe 8 on paused deadlifts?

Thanks

Hi Pat,

  1. Yes, without a belt.
  2. Not reliably. You will warm up the new variation with the reps prescribed for the working sets, watch your bar speed, and set your working weights based on RPE from there. I’d suggest really aiming to NOT overshoot the RPE, take the first week to work up to a very doable yet heavy set (thinking about how many reps you have in reserve), and then increase the weight as appropriate next week. If you start a tad low on week 1 because you are learning the movement or trying to set your RPE, that’s no problem at all, you then have room to progress.

That’s great Leah thanks so much.

I have another question but suspect I may be over thinking it - if I’m planning on 5x5 at RPE 8, but am pushed for time in the gym, would it be possible to lower the weight but reduce rest time, so what would ordinarily be an RPE 7 for example feels bumped up to an 8 due to reduced rest - would this have the same result stress wise even though the weight is lower?

Thanks in advance

You could do that, sure.
