Hi guys probably a little controversial but I’ve been watching Russel orhii the current 83kg champ on YouTube and have some questions
how is his strength that great when his “strength” part of his workouts are very low volume then he follows with a very bodybuilding style workout after ?
looks like a bodybuilder but performance of a power lifter when comparing him against other 83kg power lifters he is huge in comparison
Not sure why it’s controversial. He’s an incredible athlete, has got to be genetically gifted, and he trains well. And as a highly sensitive/high responder to training, it would make sense that high volume isn’t as needed for him. Although I don’t know what his longer training cycles and off-season training programs look like. We’re now 7 weeks from Nationals, so bunch of competitors will be using less volume in some ways as we get closer.
Yah, Jordan has been saying for a long time that the top talent ends up where the paycheck is, and if some of those people took up powerlifting full time, the results would be spectacular.
I agree with you Leah I think he’s an incredible athlete and one of a kind in terms of he has not only got tremendous strength but his physique is that of a pro bodybuilder and I don’t think that’s often seen in a powerlifter they normally have a fairy good physique but not to the level of Russell’s I believe.
Genetically gifted. Also, he mentioned in one of his videos he’s been training since the age of 13 so…a decade + under the bar. Hard work, diligent training, etc. His positive mindset can’t be overlooked either. He smiles before every tough lift on purpose. I personally love watching Brett Gibbs lift but Russ’ rise to prominence has been fun to watch.
There are a lot of genetically gifted people. It comes down to his state of mind. As for his looks, Diet. Consume enough protein to build muscle. Eat enough fat and carbs to get the necessary energy stores. I’ll come on out there and say to not force the weight gain. Let it happen as a result of getting stronger. Forcing the weight gain will not lead to anything good. I’m not considering an under weight individual here.
