Sarcopenia

Hi docs,
A close relative (64)has the symptoms of sarcopenia,
she also eats very little and quite obsessively does alot of general activity such as housework, walking, cycling to work and back. She gets very very little protein in her diet. My brother and I have cautiously introduced bodyweight resistance exercises for her health. My question: will there be any benefit to this given she refuses to eat more. We are concerned this route will burn even more calories which she needs. But we also want her to receive the clear benefits of resistance training. What is the best course of action given the circumstances. How can maximise the benefits to her.

Many thanks and thanks for the recent q and as on the gram they have been fab

Yes, there will be benefits to training even if she is not consuming more calories. I would continue training, and try to sort out why she is unwilling to increase her energy/protein intakes – if there’s an eating disorder, that would merit professional treatment.
