Saturated Fat Intake

I’ve heard for men consuming over 30g of saturated fat isn’t good and that you should ideally shoot for less than 30 but I am wondering is there any benefit to going really low (<15) in regard to a person’s cholesterol score? My LDL is perfectly fine at 75 but I’m wondering if I’d be similar eating 25-30g a day rather than 15.

BigRed,

Thanks for the post and welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here.

May I ask where you heard that 30g of saturated fat is no good?

Right now the guidelines are suggesting that 10% of daily calories be derived from saturated fat, max. For a 3000kcal/day diet that’s 300 calories, which would be about 33g. I don’t think there’s evidence that <15g sat fat makes a significant difference compared to, say, 20g- especially in the context of a given fat intake.

As far as the LDL of 75 being perfectly fine, that depends on context. Some evidence would suggest a lower LDL score would benefit you (even lowered to 15 or so), but I can’t say from here.
