Shin splints

Hey guys! I am a 6’7, 250lbs guy. I have been lifting weights for the last couple of years now. Recently, I started to run and after 2 weeks of running I noticed a pain on the medial part of my shins which I red about, and they are called “shin splints” or “MTSS”. Before I started running, it has been a looong time since I ran last time, so my body is not adapted to this kind of effort. I started running because in 2 weeks there will be a selection for S.A.S ( it’s a special unit of the Romanian Police, something like SWAT in USA), and I want to join there. And one of the tasks that I have to do in order to join there is to run 1km in 3:30 min. What can I do to get rid of shin splints short term so they don’t bother me when I train for this type of “competition”? Aftet I will join there, I know I have to deload anf start working slowly towards higher distances and intensity. But what should I do to keep them under control until I am done joining S.A.S? They are not hurting very bad, but the thing is that I can’t sprint at all, but not because of the pain. It feels like my shins get soft after sprinting for a couple of steps. Another tasks that I have to accomplish in order to join S.A.S is to sprint 50 meters in 6.8 seconds. For the rest, push ups, pull ups, sit ups which I am able to do. Can you give me a “short-term” solution?

I’m just a regular lackey on this forum so take this anecdote with a grain of salt. I used to constantly have bad shin splints in the military until I ran into a podiatrist at a shoe store. He pointed out that I would benefit from stiffer soled running shoes. Once I started biasing my shoe selection to those with stiffer soles, my shin splints went away and have never returned. YMMV depending on your circumstances though.
