So my kids decided to share their stomach flu with me. Any tips on how to hold down liquids? I was up at midnight, 2am, 3am, 5am, puking out every ounce of water/gatorade I’d ingested. No fever, but serious body aches. I’ve managed to not puke the last 2 cups of gatorade and 2 bites of white rice I’ve consumed. Is this just one of those things you have to ride out? Can’t remember the last time I had the stomach flu, or ever catching it when it’s 100 degrees outside.
Make your own oral rehydration solution (use the Google), and either wait it out or get a doctor to prescribe you some Zofran.
Oddly enough, nasal inhalation of isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, which you may have around the house, is also known to relieve nausea pretty effectively.
Any tips on what foods to introduce after having spent a couple days not keeping anything down? Non-citrus fruits seem ok, dairy hurts, meat sits like a rock in gut, and for some reason I can’t bring myself to chug whey protein like I could pre-illness. I’ve lost 12lb in 2 months and I’ll be a walking skeleton soon if I don’t get some calories down ASAP.
Thanks for mentioning the oral rehydration solution, I’ve been mixing the recommended ratio of salt and sugar (gatorade) with my water.
It’s common to have a transient, relative lactose intolerance after diarrheal illness/gastroenteritis, so I’m not surprised about the dairy issue.
The standard recommendation in this situation is to consume foods that are soft/bland, cooked, low-fiber, and not spicy.
Weird thing is, I only drink lactose-free milk, but my gut is acting like it’s regular milk right now. Down to 179lb, it’ll be forever before I weigh as much as a real man again.
You’ll be OK dude.
