Spirometry Test

Hey Guys,

Long time follower, first time poster. I appreciate everything BBM does, this organization has kept me motivated and positive through some difficult times.

Today for work. I had to take a respiratory fit test. The test was a spirometry test done on a handheld device. I had to blow into the tube 8 consecutive times, the nurse was continually “coaching” me on how to breath into the machine. “Take a deep breath breathe hard once then push as much air as possible”.

They printed my results and informed me I had failed the pulmonary function test.

I take no medication, never a smoker, no asthma. I’ve been consistently lifting 4-5 days a week for 3 years. BBM programs for slightly over a year. Former college athlete, I’ve never had any pulmonary issues or distress. I feel my anaerobic and aerobic work capacity is better than it ever has been, I feel fantastic overall. Blood pressure tested before test was 109/65.

Is this something I should be concerned about or could there be an underlying reason I did not pass (maybe blowing technique)?

(My chart was also marked as moderately obese due to my BMI measurements taken today are below)
30 years old
6’2
195.2 lbs
13% body fat.

It’s not clear why you were tested in the first place, but I’m not sure what it means to “fail” a pulmonary function test.

Without the data, this situation is hard to interpret. But it sounds like there probably isn’t anything to be concerned about based on how you’re feeling.
