SSLP Press Question

Hi Jordan/Austin/Leah.

First time in the forum here. I’m 18 years old, 5 feet 5 inches, and 152lbs.
I’m eating 3062 calories, 383g CHO, 225g protein and 84g fat.

I restarted LP after a two-week layoff when I moved from Indonesia to Canada and preparing for university. My working weight prior to the layoff was 100lbs, so I deloaded to 85lbs on my first day of training.

I have been using 5lbs jumps from 85 to 100, where the bar speed slowed down noticeably. I then took a 2.5lbs jump to 102.5lbs and stalled (cannot complete 3x5 reps for 3 consecutive workouts).

Do you recommend:

  1. Resetting 10% and microloading back up by 2.5lbs increments using the regular 3x5 scheme, or…
  2. Incorporating your “Novice Bench and Press Plug-In” (but only for the press) while also increasing the working weight by 2.5lbs increments?

In other words, is my stall more likely due to taking large jumps (5lbs jumps), which I can’t recover from, or is it more likely due to insufficient volume (and thus stress)?

Thank you!

Hi Abel and welcome to the boards. Hope school is going well. At this point, you can simply use the plug in and carry on with your upper body training that way.

Thanks Leah!

Oh, and one more question, if you don’t mind.

Do I use the plugin until one of my Squat/Deadlift stalls or until when they both stall?

If, for example, I can’t progress on my Squat every workout, but can still add 5lbs to my Deadlifts every session, should I incorporate a light squat day (Advanced Novice) or move to The Bridge at that point?

With this scenario, it would be time to move to the Bridge. However, it would be very unlikely that you were stall on your squat yet still be adding 5lbs to your DL each session.
