SSNLP while losing weight

Hi Austin/Jordan

M, 23, 6’1, 207 lbs

I just finished week 3 of SSNLP.

S - 135 > 175 ~ RPE 8
B - 115 > 135 ~ RPE 7
P - 75 > 90 ~ RPE 9
D - 195 > 235 ~ RPE 9 (will start rotating with Clean and Press this next week)
(Two partially torn labrums, one worse than the other)

Before starting my LP, i’ve been steadily losing weight this past ~8 months from around 235lbs. My goal is to hit 190-195 lbs eventually because that is just where I think I will feel comfortable in terms of everyday life. Obviously losing body mass and gaining strength are two competing concepts in the long run, and I am starting to notice the weight feel heavier as I get lighter (also im just lifting more weight :roll_eyes:).

My goals are a 1.5xBW 1RM on Squat and Deadlift, 1xBW 3RM on Bench, 135lbs x 5 on Press.

My question is… how long might a LP take me while losing another 10-15 lbs? I am not impatient either, just wondering how to deal with stalling out on lifts while cutting calories. Should I just try the weight again next session if I fail 5 reps? That might just signal the end of my LP since I dont want to gain more weight after hitting my goal and I can move on to different training methods…

Diet info: ~2000 Cals 25% Pro, 60% Carb, 15% Fat. Vegan 2+ years and dont plan on stopping. Oats, Fruit, Rice, Veg, Beans, Tempeh/Seitan/Tofu, Plenty of Greens

Any advice or comments would be awesome

Jzak,

Thanks for the post and welcome to the forum.

I see a number of competing interests here with SSLP, weight loss, and being a Vegan. I don’t see any reason that you can’t continue to get stronger and lose weight for a period of time- perhaps until the end of LP (average 9-12 weeks). After that, you will need different programming and likely a reassessment of weight and body comp goals.

@Jordan_Feigenbaum

I appreciate the response, I will take the time to complete my LP and reevaluate my goals. The Bridge is my plan post-LP, so I am looking forward to that and continuing my strength training.
