Hello bbm crew. It’s big fan from Slovakia. I have maybe complicated question. My grandmother had a stroke ten days ago. She is hospitalized on the geriatric department in the hospital. It is third time that she has had a stroke. She has also coronary arteries and fibrillating heart. She is 80 years old. She cannot sit by her own her left side is now almost without movement. It’s getting better tho it’s much better than week ago. Her rehabilitation doctor told us that her brain was severely damaged and that we should not await some miraculous improvement. But she doesn’t get any rehabilitation exercises in her hospital care. I want to be realistic about this but also want to help grandma as much as I can. So please can you provide any advice on this. What kind of exercises is possible to do and what can’t we do. I will be very thankful for any kind of advice. Stefan.

This is an extremely complex situation and we unfortunately cannot advise you on this from here.
In the US it is the standard of care to get aggressive rehabilitation post-stroke. It may be that they do not have adequate resources at that particular hospital to make this happen, or there may be a particular reason why they are not doing it yet. I would ask her physicians about this to see what her rehab options are.
Thank you very much for response. I was talking to her physicians. They said she can’t go through full rehabilitation process cause her other diagnosis and that’s why exercises are minimal.
