36 year old male. 6’2” height. 36” waist. Currently 237 lbs. About 25% body fat based on naval calculator. Weighed 304 with about 40% bf back in March. Primarily portion control for March and April. Switched to ketogenic diet end of April. Been on it since. Daily caloric intake is about 1700 kCal (176g P/30g C/100g F). Using the NLP for the past 8 weeks. Been progressing well through the NLP but have recently noticed a lack of energy during workouts. I read the TBAB article recently and I think a dietary change is necessary. My primary goal is strength gain with fat loss being secondary. I would like to get my BF into the teens. Should I use the Recomposition macros or Fat Loss macros?
I think if you’ve actually been on 1700kCal/day recently then neither the recomp or fat loss macros would be useful for you. The ketogenic diet may or may not be contributing. As far as what to do, it really depends on how much weight you’re losing on those 1700cal/day. If you’re hemorrhaging weight then perhaps you can add back some calories and temper the weight loss to get your energy levels up, you know?
My average weight loss has been about 2 lbs per week. I’ve had a few weeks where the weight loss has stalled but those have been rare. My kCals are probably a bit higher due to only counting net Carbs. My diet consists of a lot of dark greens and other vegetables. Lots of steak and ground beef.
I would start at around the same calories and adjust up or down from there based on how you do. Keep up the good work!
