The effect of extended rest periods on RPE

Currently on the 7 Week Hypertrophy program. I usually train around 2am which is the norm for me. However I have a newborn in the house now. It’s actually convenient that her feeding times run right before and after my usual training time so I can get up, feed her, train, and feed again. It’s been working out great except for today. I was in the middle of deadlifts on wk2d2 when I had to go and do a feeding. This time there was no going right back to sleep so my 2-3 minute rest time turned into about 45 minutes. I picked back up where I left off but I wonder how this may have affected my RPE as I was pretty well rested. Should this even be a concern or should I make modifications in the event of an extended “rest”?

I don’t think there is an easy answer here, as if this is what you have to do, you do it. However, yes-taking very long rests will affect your training. In this case you return both without fatigue from the previous set and you are not really warmed up anymore. So you’re going to have to figure out what the best plan is in your situation, but after 45 min, I’d need to warm up for another set, therefore I’d be introducing some fatigue again (although less than before), and with the hypertrophy template, I don’t think you’ll have to make any modifications.

Thanks! I’ll try adding a warm up set prior to jumping back in and see how that goes. What are you going to do… not train?
