Thyroid Question

Drs. Feigenbaum and Baraki:

Thank you for all you do for the strength community. I’m a 50 yr old male who has been training since age 16. 15 years ago I had my thyroid ablated due to three severe reoccurrences of hyperthyroid where I lost between 20 and 25 lbs. in a matter of weeks. Been on Synthroid and Cytomel since. Labs still indicate hypothyroid as the free T4 is high and the TSH is almost nonexistent. To what extent does this somewhat constant state of hypothyroid impact my gainzz? Gainzz, by the way, that have been very hard to come by.

Yeah, something is not right here.

If you have an undetectable TSH and a high free T4, that represents a state of hyperthyroidism, not hypothyroidism. It really sounds like you need to be seen & managed by an endocrinologist, as your medication dose may be too high (or, potentially, other issues at play).
