To rinse (after brushing with fluoride toothpaste) or not to rinse

Some dentists recommend not rinsing one’s mouth after brushing with a fluoride toothpaste, so that the retained fluoride ions can help strengthen the enamel. Other sources say this isn’t a good idea, due to the risk of toxicity from swallowing the fluoride. The lowly fluoride ion has been the focus of so much hot debate over the years that it’s hard to know who to believe - unless it’s you guys! Do you have an opinion or recommendation regarding this rinsing thing?

I don’t have an opinion on this. The risk of fluoride toxicity from something like this is vanishingly low, anyway.

From what I understand, the idea behind not rinsing is to allow the fluoride ions to stay in contact with the teeth for a longer time, thereby promoting remineralization and strengthening of the enamel.
