Hi
Male, 33 years old.
Due to a infection in my left hip most of my cartilage had to be removed a young age so I have had osteoarthritis for 28years.
Recently I underwent a total hip replacement surgery, I am now allowed to use the new artificial joint to its full potential.
Two weeks ago, I started barbell training again.
Squatting and deadlifting is getting better I can now squat to depth and almost pull from the floor, which I have never been able to do before.
Throughout all these years, I have been active and training.
For the past year or so befor the surgery I have been doing the 12 week strength template and 4 day hypertrophy template back to back.
I would say I have adequate training experience when it comes to barbell training.
While I was recovering and doing the recovery workouts I couldn’t squat or do any lower body barbell training ,I have been doing upper body workouts.
That is pushing and pulling 3-4 days a week at best of my ability with machines or barbells whenever possible.
Lower body Rehab workouts where leg extension, leg curls, leg press (with limited ROM) and banded hip exercises 3-4 days a week.
How would I go about training now?
I’m thinking about doing the power building 2 template or hypertrophy 2 template.
I’m not sure if it’s too much volume for lower body squat / deadlift since I’m still sort of recovering from the surgery and are quite weak.
It should be more then ok for upper body since I only had a break from training when I was in the hospital (3 days).
Would it be more beneficial for me to do 1on1 coaching rather than running the templates because of the artificial hip?
In addition, Can I do 1 rm @ RPE 8 or even 9 with the artificial hip in the future?
I cannot find any info regarding this, and I know most of your templates require you to do a 1rm at RPE 8 or 9.
The physiotherapist that has helped me with the rehab would not recommend doing so.
But then again I do not think she has any or limited experiences with barbell training.
The orthopedist has not really put any limitations on the new joint other than limit running jumping.
Which is fine by me since I do not like running and I find plyo work rather boring…
Let me know if there is anything you need me to specify and thanks for the help in advance.
