I have to start with: “Not THAT herpes!!”
When I was a little kid I contracted some form of the Herpes virus which showed up as a sore just below my eye. As I’ve grown up, thankfully the flare ups have gotten less and less frequent and have moved lower, now sitting on my left cheekbone basically. I haven’t had a flare for about 3/4 years now I’d say. I’ve never actually known if it’s HSV1 or 2 but I’ve never had any issues “below the belt” if that changes anything?
I got hit with a cold last week which caused me to miss a Day 3 workout (3 day hyper) and I just skipped the weekend GPP because I felt and looked like crap and am stuck in a commercial gym.
Got back to training this week and it’s been fine but last night and this morning I’m feeling the familiar tingle and now a bit of pain of a flare up coming, Im guessing due to stress and some lowered immunity from the cold.
I’ve always heard not to train “with a virus” and something about heart damage…but that’s always sounded pretty old wives tale’y to me? Any truth to that? Can I train with this, excluding the obvious cleanliness/contagiousness issues?
Is there anything I can do to shorten these flare-ups when I do have em and notice the tingle early? I’ve heard of using things like L-Lysine creams and even Tea Tree oil but is there anything legit out there?
Thanks for all you guys do, love the content and education you guys provide!
