Uneven bench press

During the bench press, at intensities approaching RPE 9, the bar tends to move towards the right side and the left side of the bar seems to rotate towards the hips when viewed from above. This is more pronounced with a closer grip. Could this be due to a slight degree of scoliosis (diagnosed by x Ray), or one shoulder being wider than the other, or even a tricep bilateral strength differential (right tricep is weaker during dumbbell extensions). If this is physical, would I need to use an offset grip?

Unless you are failing reps due to bar path issues, I don’t think I’d worry too much about this.

I suppose it could be related to scoliosis or a strength difference, though neither of these would make me significantly change the plan (i.e., continue training). I don’t know what a shoulder being “wider” than the other means, however.

Thanks Austin. I never remember having this issue before, having trained at other gyms so I looked at the bench and it seems that the pad is mounted off center. I will be measuring it on Sunday and a change of venue might be indicated.
