Volume and Exercise Selection

Volume must go up over time for a lifter to keep advancing. Since rep ranges do not typically go up, that means that the number of sets would go up over time.

If we just focus on the low bar back squat, the number of sets for a novice should be less than the number of sets for an intermediate or advanced lifter. (Assuming similar relative intensities)

I hope I am correct up to this point.

If so, how does exercise selection play into this concept? If I then introduce high bar squats, bulgarian split squats, etc… Would all those be counted the same, as far as the total squatting volume calculation, as when I just had the lifter low bar back squat?

All would be counted as “squat volume”, yes.

Thank you!
