Volume question for the squat/leg press in Powerbuilding I vs Hypertrophy I

Good afternoon sir,

It looks as though the volume for the squat and leg press in Powerbuilding I is lower than in Hypertrophy I. If I am coming from running Hypertrophy I, should I add some sets to each of these exercises?

No, as the average intensity, priority lifts, volume load, etc. are all different between programs and designed to work within the context of the entire program.

I think it is a mistake to view more volume as better without taking into consideration the rest of the program.

Related, more volume isn’t necessarily better.

Thanks for the response! I’m making great progress in Hypertrophy I, so wouldn’t lowering the volume when switching to Powerbuilding I be counter-productive? It’s my understanding that as you get stronger and muscular size has increased, that you need to gradually INCREASE the volume to elicit the same results.

Not necessarily, as again, more volume =/= better for all adaptations. There are other components of programming that are important for strength adaptations, which I referenced above. You don’t always need to increase volume, no.

Okay, thanks for the help, can’t wait to start it.
