Waist circumference for half Asians?

Hi,

So my understanding about the BMI/Waist circumference deal is that for males, anything over 40 inches creates an increased risk for your typical health diseases and then for people of Asian decent you take off 3 inches.

I’m half Asian at 37.5 inches and rising. What do?

I think the idea is that Asians overall have smaller structures in which case I think the question will be is my body structure more white or more Asian. I’m 6 foot even and 205 currently so I’m guessing white but as I still want to add more weight to get stronger but I don’t want to if there’s disproportionate health risks.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

Thanks for the post and great question. Regardless of whether you’re of Asian descent or not, 37.5" is in excess of our waist circumference recommendations. We’d suggest getting down to somewhere in the 33-34" range before considering gaining weight.

Got it, I’m too fat.

Thanks though, I think between this and the last newsletter talking about weight gain and muscle provides a lot of clarity on a general approach to this. I hope you guys do a podcast that talks about this and how to adjust training etc. down the line. I feel like it’s one of the topics that you guys haven’t really discussed much (bulking/cutting in general).
