Lately (2 weeks ish) I have been noticing that my pressing hasn’t been doing so well. I have been hitting lower numbers than expected in overhead and bench and have had a tendency to push harder with my right when benching (right arm sometimes moving ahead of left). When working with dumbbells for pressing my right shoulder has been failing me when trying to keep tight and lower the weight for the next rep. I have still been “ok” at pressing and figured it was just cumulative fatigue and some bad days.
Two days ago I noticed my right shoulder felt weak when dumbbell rowing and the next day it felt a little tiny bit heavy and stiff when trying to move it behind my back to scratch with my thumb. Yesterday was the final nail in the coffin. I was trying to barbell row 70 kgs (after bench (4x5 and an AMRAP) and front squats) and I couldn’t row the bar off the floor. Something moved wrong in my shoulder and there was not enough strength there to complete the movement. I tried 55 ish kgs and I could move this fine but shoulder still felt off.
I have become better at managing pain from consuming your material and consulting with a physiotherapist, but this is something else to me. There is no pain (it is a little sore if I poke the lateral/rear part of my shoulder) but my shoulder is weak and feels heavy especially when I lift it. My grip feels a bit off too.
What to do? Is any of this a red flag that this is a more serious problem (I am naively thinking nerve problem or tear in structure since my shoulder is not working as it should) I am used to working around pain without performance drop but here is performance drop with no pain.
