Wearing earplugs in the gym

Hello,

Given that people in my gym regularly let go of barbells from overhead height, or even literally thrust them downwards from waist height because they’re so strong and tough:

1.) Do you recommend wearing earplugs in the gym to protect against hearing loss from repeated exposure to very loud clanging and bouncing of barbells/weights?
2.) If you don’t recommend wearing earplugs in the gym while training, why not?

  1. Not routinely unless someone wants to.
  2. Because it doesn’t matter outside of personal preference.
