Weight, BMI, Waist Size - how worried should I be?

I wasn’t sure if this is a medical question or a nutrition question - sorry if this ended up in the wrong forum!

My question here is primarily related to how worried I should be about my weight. Let’s exclude other risk factors like cholesterol and BP (those are actually fine) and lifestyle (my strength training is good and cardio conditioning is getting better).

Family history is an issue - so that might cast a light on some of this.

My doc gives me a pretty hard time about by weight, and I certainly could lose a few pounds, but here’s where I’m at now:

Age: 60 yrs
Waist size: 36" / 91.4 cm)
Weight: 171.2 lbs / 77.7 kg (today - average is probably a few pounds higher)
Height: 5’ 10" / 178 cm

That puts my BMI at about 24.5 which is pretty close to the overweight threshold of 25 and my waist size is 4 inches below the 40 inch risk threshold for men.

So I guess I want to know from you guys - on say a scale of 1 to 10 (or low/med/high) how concerned do you think should I be about my cardiac risk?

Based on your weight and waist alone, my concern is pretty low. However, this is not enough information to really give some sense of heart disease risk. Age, blood sugar control, blood pressure, lipoprotein levels, and other risk factors can be compiled to generate a more meaningful risk score over the next few years. Your doctor should be doing that when you see them, though we can help if needed.

Thank you @Jordan_Feigenbaum ! I really appreciate you taking the time to respond! I’ll check back over my doc’s assessment - he did come up with a risk factor for me and I’ll have to remind myself what that was. It wasn’t super high that’s for sure, though I have put on some weight since then.
