the last 2 weeks , due to both the holidays and life schedule , more often than not I haven’t been able to get to the gym my normal 4 days. I’ve had to kinda try to condense everything into 3 days and sometimes only having an hour or so To lift. Which means mostly just getting my working sets in and having to kill off some of the accessory work ( leg press or dumbbell work etc ) this week I’m now 9 weeks into an 11 week training cycle , and it got me thinking:
at what point do you drop off accessory work ? Would you expect my lack of the same volume these last few weeks to effect my peaking and thus possibly me not being able to PR? I do think I remember you guys stating before that you keep volume all the same up until right before a meet or so. Where as others argue that all accessory work should be cut out 2 weeks or so before a meet / PR , so basically I’m asking would you expect me to be fine or should I back up a week or two in my training and repeat.
Depending on the programming, these accessories might not have been doing anything in the first place though I can’t say for sure.
Potentially never, though both defining “accessory work” and programming it for a non competitor would be difficult.
I think a drop in overall activity levels can have various effects on training outcomes and depending on how much fatigue/training effect you were receiving from the accessory work, you may see no difference or a slight peak right now (though the peak may be compromised by additional life stress that reduces your time to train in the first place).
It really depends on the lifter and the situation. Sometimes I have a substantial amount of GPP work still going on all the way into the meet for some of my lifters whereas others will have it cut off weeks prior to the meet.
