I’ve seen other protein powders marketed at kids. Whey RX says “18 and over keep out of reach of children”! The ingredients seem pretty benign, do I need to put my protein powder in the child proof cabinet
There’s nothing unusual about the ingredient, but that’s a required statement for supplements.
Figure as much, probably a government conspiracy
That being said its been a great product, sooo glad I came across Jordan recommending isolate for folks who experience problems with concentrate, I thought whey was whey but this has been much better!
Hey,
Did you guys tweak the formula a bit? I saw the new label design and noticed ingredients were a bit different.
Not on the whey rx, no.
On the original label, only four ingredients were listed: whey protein isolate, cocoa powder, natural flavors, and Stevia. The new label substitutes sucralose (Splenda?) for Stevia and additionally lists salt and sunflower lecithin. That’s what made me think you changed it slightly.
I’ve done some more digging on this and there seems to have been an issue with our formulation and what was actually made. We’re working on resolving it and going back to our original formula with Stevia, though that did have a very small amount of sunflower lecithin and salt as well, but obviously not sucralose. While I don’t think anything is wrong with sucralose, I do think there were some who purchased our product because it was made with Stevia instead and I’d prefer not to alienate that customer base.
Thanks dude!
This is a bit disconcerting. How were you unaware that a different formulation was being sold with your name on it? I’ve been buying your whey for several months now and I’ve been very happy with the product and very happy to support Barbell Medicine. About a month ago I needed to restock, but chocolate was out of stock both on your site and Amazon so I went with Vanilla. I really don’t like Vanilla protein powder but that has nothing to do with your product, just personal preference. So I was really excited to see Chocolate back in stock on Amazon a week or so ago. When it arrived, I immediately noticed the redesign of the packaging and noticed that “Sweetened With Stevia” was no longer prominently displayed. I thought, “I wonder why they decided to de-emphasize that?” Then I wondered if it was because it was no longer the sweetener being used. Checked the ingredients and sure enough, sucralose. Didn’t really care, I’ve got no problems with sucralose. However, what has really disappointed me is the taste of this new formulation (intentional or otherwise) of the chocolate. Seems fine at first, but then has a really plasticky aftertaste (cannot think of a better way to describe it). So now after reading this thread, I don’t even know if I should be consuming this stuff. It tastes “chemically” and apparently isn’t even what you guys intended to be selling. I urge you to get your hands on a container and try it for yourself. Is this stuff is safe?
Salvalva,
I can understand your concerns. I have both of the proteins and cannot really tell a difference between the two taste-wise. This is subjective of course, but I can see where you’re coming from. On the safety front, each lot that is produced goes through testing with Informed Choice (https://www.informed-choice.org/) prior to being sold so it is indeed safe and has nothing extra (or missing) in it.
That said, I believe the mfg made a mistake with the reformulation and our next batch will have stevia back in it for sure. We are looking into why this happened so that we can avoid it going forward.
Hope this helps!

Thanks, Jordan. I appreciate your response.
Glad to hear you will be going back to the original ingredients. I also noticed the different taste and had much the same reaction as Salvalva. I have gotten used to the new taste after a few weeks, but still prefer the older version.
