I’m a computer programmer, and have been training with barbells for about two years. Three weeks back, I went on a business trip. Before that trip, I was having no issues with wrist pain, and was lifting four days a week, including some bench variation in each session.
A few days into this business trip, I woke up one day with significant wrist pain. Any pressure on the wrist, like pushing myself off the floor or pushups, hurt. Since I was already traveling without access to a gym, I didn’t need to worry about whether or not to lift: I was already grounded on that front.
When I got back last week, the pain was still there. I had one lifting session. Squat twinged my wrist a bit, as did bench, and deadlift was fine. I went to my GP, who told me it’s De Quarvain’s. He gave me an NSAID for the inflammation, told me to heat it, and told me to rest.
My question is what else, if anything, I can do for this, and when I can get back to lifting. I don’t want to lose dem gainzz, but I also need to be careful about anything which could cause long term issues with my ability to type (again, I’m a computer programmer). Any advice welcome.
