A Question on Macros and Physical Activity on MyFitnessPal

Dr. Jordan,

Like many folks, I track my calories and macros on MyFitnessPal. I have it linked up with MapMyRun so when I go for a 3 mile jog the calories I burn are automatically added to my 2000 calorie goal, meaning that if I burn 500 calories on a run, my calorie needs for the day jump to 2500. Simple (assuming the “calories burned” estimates are accurate). But the macros also adjust, so my question is: should I stick to the general macro formula outlined in “To Be A Beast” - or should I increase my macros in response to MyFitnessPal’s recalculation following my run? To be a little more specific: based on my goals, height, and weight, my carb target for the day is 173g. If I go for a 3 mile jog, MFP bumps that up to about 210g. What is a man to do? 173 or 210?

Brandon

I would not increase macros or calories due to calorie expenditure data.

I stopped tracking my training and any other conditioning in MFP for this reason.
