Ab training in Hypertrophy I

When it says 7 minutes of ab training GPP does this mean like 3-4 sets with a short rest period? I was doing cable crunches with a bosu ball and it felt great during the set, like I could get a great contraction of the abs. My lower abs started to cramp really bad after the set and I stopped to play it safe. Is that normal for ab training? Most of my ab work I’m not really flexing my spine too much. It was V ups and weighted decline bench situps till I brought the cable crunch on a bosy ball so you’re crunching more horizontally than down. Very easy to load too. Abs haven’t been a huge priority for me being already fairly lean.

I think if you are doing an exercise that’s generating significant fatigue then cramps can happen, yes.

As far as “how-to do abs” in this context, I’d set a timer for 7 minutes and do as many submaximal sets of whatever you’ve selected within that time frame. I prefer isometric exercises if given a choice, but v-ups, leg raises, roll-outs, etc. are all cool too.

Thank you for the quick response Jordan. I might try to do the bosu ball cable crunches again because it was the first time an ab exercise “felt good” and the ease of loading it. The cramps caused me to back off a bit though since no exercise is worth an injury, especially abs
