I have tried to listen or watch the last 3 Starting Strength interviews with Rippetoe. The heart surgeon, dietician and now the fighter…
Why does Rippetoe even have someone sitting there? He never shuts up long enough to let the person talk. He asks the question and then answers it by constantly interrupting. It is so unprofessional and disrespectful! I used to write down salient points I thought might be worthwhile, but lately, zippo!
I had to turn off the latest interview with Nick Delgadillo due to Rippetoe’s crude and foul language. My daughter was in the next room. I’m losing all respect for Mr. Rippetoe. He comes across as a mean spirited blowhard.
Thank you Barbell Medicine for your professionalism! You should be proud.

I have my own, highly negative opinions on the man, but part of why I have such high regard for Jordan, Austin, Leah, and crew is that publicly, they have refrained from bashing him. Maybe the occasional head shaking…
IMO moving on from Rip’s orbit in such a drama minimizing manner is a huge example of the BBM professionalism the OP lauds.
For my part, I’d love it if people would just stop talking about him in these forums. I come here to engage in discussion about BBM, not SS. They have their own forum.
a.) you don’t have to read certain discussions if you don’t want to
b.) do you genuinely think that you could start this threat in the SS forums without it being deleted and you potentially getting blocked?
c.) what’s so bad about discussing things going on in the s&c world other than BBM?
Meh, Unka Rip’s corner of the interwebs is where I landed when I started taking barbell work seriously, and it’s where I was first introduced to Jordan’s work.
It makes sense to continue to contrast BBM with the forum that was seminal to them, however this being the internet, that involves some drama, especially considering the MPHBITEU SS orbits.
Some (side-eyes the new guy) thrive on that drama. But I’d rather it be left over there. Now discussing the SS paradigms, both the good and what can be improved, that’s worth discussing here IMO.
Edit: As for the OP, I can empathize with someone who is disappointed in the behavior of someone who previously they felt brought value into their lives, and thus they were hoping for something better. Sometimes that kind of disappointment is hard to not discuss somewhere friendly.
Just as it’s unappealing to me to see the BBM community sling mud at Rip though, I hope we can be more positive towards each other.
We are open to many discussions here for sure. But keep in mind that overly negative discussions aren’t particularly helpful either. So we understand the frustrations, but we do like to keep an eye on the tone of discussions about everyone in the S and C world-be it SS or any other company. This OP isn’t a problem at all but just kind of a general note agreeing with Serack that we do like to maintain professionalism in all areas of the forum here.
a) Agreed without argument. I typically do just ignore the frequent complaining about SS and Rip. I was just offering my perspective, and don’t mean any offense.
b) I have no idea. I have almost no experience there, and don’t really care to look into it. I have no interest in Rip or his programming.
c) Nothing? I didn’t mean to suggest that there was anything bad about it. My comment was intended to be specific, not general. Sorry if I came across as proscriptive vs. just me offering my opinion.
Sorry if my post above came across harsh or aggressive anyway. I didn’t mean it to sound like that just didn’t see why having discussions about Rip/SS would be bad.
And I agree @Leah that we should keep it on a professional level (so it doesn’t into Reddit or similar) but at the same time it’s cool to still be able discuss issues such as these openly (and again: as long as a certain tone and manners are ensured).
It turns out barbell logic did a barbell medicine and forked themselves out from the mark rippetoe.
was it inevitable? any ideas how the newly created company will fare? i mean unlike barbell medicine which has their unique programming and doctor related focus it currently looks like barbell logic is just starting strength with online coaching, but without riptoad’s official support.
we will be rebranding to Barbell Logic Online Coaching
He’s still exclusively hiring SSC’s, just no longer explicitly using the SS name for the online coaching service’s branding, which is actually what Jordan expressed as the root of his his objection in the BBM open letter on leaving the SS community.
I probably should’ve argued harder that using the name “Starting Strength Online Coaching” to represent a business that did not include all Starting Strength coaches who had online coaching practices was unfair and potentially harmful to other coach’s businesses.
Dunno what motivated him to make this branding change, and I’m not terribly interested in digging for whatever drama the internet thinks is behind it, but I do wish him well in his endeavors to build a business off of getting people stronger.
edit: I visited his website and it looks as though he has started his own “coaching academy with the intent of culturing his own coaches outside the SSC pipeline.
@Car , if it wasn’t already clear, let me be explicit. Many, if not all of your posts discussing S&C personalities outside of BBM have been viewed by members of this community as containing words, opinions, and questions that appear to be specifically barbed to stir up drama.
I actually find some of the information you have provided in these posts to be interesting and informative, since SS was an organization I used to be invested in and getting a few updates on it’s current status is nice. But this community was established with great care towards treating others, and especially the SS community it came from, with professionalism and respect. Which are values I… well highly value.
The extra barbs added in your posts make me very, very uncomfortable. For the sake of maintaining the forum’s emphasis on professionalism and respect, I request that you check your future posts for barbed insults, and edit them out before posting.
I just noticed that mark revoked all of the Starting Strength Coaches credentials for the staff at Barbell Logic. That does seem extreme, it should serve as a warning to any persons who wants to go into business with mark rippetoe that if the old man has a tantrum he can take away your credentials (and money too). I always found mark to be an odd nutcase based on his forum posts, but to cut off his own son Matt Reynolds is just stone cold. I hope that mark’s son Matt Reynolds can move on from his old kooky father and build a business that does not rely on the flawed method known as “starting strength”. Any current coaches or business people working with mark rippetoe or starting strength should have a “Plan B” in case something goes down. mark cannot be trusted.

I have no doubt that in the future this type of betrayal by mark will happen again as it have happened multiple times in the past (note that Barbell Medicine was born out of such a split).

Now that Jordan F, Austin Baraki, mark’s son Matt Reynolds plus his best wife Niki Sims are ejected out of Starting Strength, it seems that Nick Delgadillo has been promoted to mark rippetoe’s right-hand man, after seeing how he is doing a lot of the day-to-day work in WFAC based on what I am been following at Starting Strength forums. That is until he is forcibly deported back to Mexico once Mark gets in a bad mood and call ICE on our dear friend Nick.
Oh that. Like I’m all for a long lasting shoe but I could get essentially the same thing from Position with the wooden heel and everything for about the same as any of the major brands shoes around $200.
