Do any of you ever find yourself not participating in activities because they may effect your next training day? I ran a chainsaw cutting up a bunch of trees yesterday. Lower back felt it this morning. I was expecting to hit 300 at RPE 8 but 275 is where I called 8. I guess it’s just a matter of still getting in there and training.
Just because Rip disappeared up his own a** doesn’t mean we have to.
Why do you train in the first place?
Presumably that’s a squat or pull your doing for 275 lbs. No offense, but I think it’s safe to say you’re not qualifying for IPF World’s anytime soon.
Personally cutting up a bunch of trees and not worrying about throwing out my back is exactly why I train – so no, I don’t find myself not participating in daily activities to PR a lift. In fact I get pretty jazzed every time I shovel snow or push my lawn mower up my hill. Because I’m stronger than I was last year and chores are easier.

I’m only 30, but I’d like to be useful for as long as possible – preferably up until the day I die. That’s the only reason I train. I feel pretty confident I don’t have a 500lb bench, 800 lb squat, or 900 lb pull in my future so I don’t really see the point in worrying about my numbers. As long as I’m getting stronger I’m getting more useful and life is getting easier.
