AMRAPS or EMOMs

Barbell Medicine Team,

Is there a case for programming EMOMs or AMRAPS when short on time for squat, bench, deadlift, press? Or do you guys try and stick to these training “styles” for GPP days?

I don’t now that AMRAPs save time per se’ without a decent cut in volume, which would’ve cut time on its own. EMOMs must be lighter by design, so I’m not sure they’re great for maximal strength development, though they’re certainly preferable to not training.

It really depends on how short you are on time and what your training goals are.

For health, none of this matters. For actual strength performance, I’d prefer reduced rest periods for the back off sets, even if using less weight. I don’t think I’d do EMOMs or AMRAPs though unless I had no other choice. Alternatively, if someone could train more days with fewer exercises and do the regular programming…that’d be preferable.
