Looking to build my own peri workout supplement but I’m curious if anyone knows where I can find powders that are usp or cgmp certified? The microingredients and bulksupplements brand on amazon is a great price but i’m not sure if I should trust it?
Good question. I see that bulksupplements.com says they’re an FDA certified facility, but I can’t find any reference to cgmp on the products themselves. Maybe it’s implied though?
I think on their About Us page they mention their facility is cgmp, but I never found any reference on a product page
That’s exactly why I was confused! I know that I can source single ingredients cheaper and making 10lb tub of preworkout at a time. I also can mix gatorade mix or powerade mix in the change the flavor whenever I want.
My thinking is that the bulksupplements.com is probably going to be fine though
I use www.bulkpowders.com which is fine. That is UK/Europe focused.
Great time to stock up on peri rx, $10 off!
Although I would say, trying to mix 10lbs of different supplements by hand, is probably going to yield inconsistent amounts of each supplement. If you’re putting anything in there that can be dangerous in doses less than or equal to your full “dose” size, you should maybe think twice about doing this. e.g. potassium, caffeine, and probably many other supplements.
You would just measure out each dose individually and combine before hand . You need stabilizers and other ingredients to get a large mixture to have consistent doses
www.canadianprotein.com is a good place to buy bulk supplements for any other Canadians out there. Unfortunately peri-RX is too dang expensive to import, so I make a homemade “I can’t believe it’s not peri-RX!” preworkout.
I await the day BBM products are on Amazon Canada!
@llaffin when you mix your “I can’t believe it’s not peri-RX!” do you just weigh out the grams of each ingredient each time and add flavoring? If so how does it mix? Is it more trouble than it is worth or is it pretty easy?
The bulk supplements on Canada protein actually conveniently come with scoops to my surprise. I mix each ingredient daily by just using the scoop and eye balling it. For example, the scoop for citrulline malate is 5g, so I just visually add 3/5th a scoop extra to get ~8g. Makes the whole process only takes a minute.
The ingredients mix really well, I use a shaker cup and it works dandy. The only downside is the taste … citrulline malate is pretty darn sour (like eating a fresh lemon) with a slight earthy undertone, and the BCAAs are pretty grungy. I add in some crystal lite powder for flavour, it works okay, but still doesn’t taste great.
@Kristara and @llaffin , FWIW, I calculated the ratios of ingredients in Peri-Rx and based on 250g of BCAAs I fill a tub with the remaining ingredients. I end up with a tub of circa 655g of Peri-Rx mix, which lasts about a month to 6 weeks. Once I smush the major clumps (if any), I put the lid on, shake, shake, shake around the kitchen for a bit and it is fine.
I also have a separate tub of just creatine monohydrate and beta alanine for the two non-training days per week as per Jordan’s suggestions to keep taking these two every day.
@teddyd and @llaffin THANKS GUYS!!! I appreciate these tips. I am almost out of my BCAA’s and pre-workout and need to decide what I am going to do, I think I must not take them as often as others, I only take them before and after I lift (when I can remember). I like the idea of putting them in a tub for simplification. I guess I should do some math to figure out amounts:) . I will need to figure out flavoring, that is the problem with most BCAA’s and pre-workouts (I have never tried peri rx so I can’t speak on that), the taste is usually terrible so I will have to experiment. Any other tips, I am always open to ideas!!
Ratios for those interested (can easily calculate them from the Peri-RX label). I hope this is OK with the BBM team.
The first column is the ingredient, the second column are the grams per ingredient in a serve of Peri-RX, and the third column are the percentage composition for each ingredient. From there it is pretty simple to calculate how much BCAA you want and how much of the rest you need. Note, sodium is the amount of Sodium as in Na, not salt as in NaCl. I used a electrolyte mix and calculated for sodium contained therein.
BCAA | 8 | 38.10% |
---|---|---|
Citrulline Malate | 4 | 19.05% |
Beta Alanine | 3.2 | 15.24% |
Creatine Mono | 2.5 | 11.90% |
HMB Mono | 1.5 | 7.14% |
Betaine Anhydrous | 1 | 4.76% |
Sodium | 0.8 | 3.81% |
21 | 100.00% |
I thought about doing this, but was worried that if the large tub didn’t mix perfectly, I’d end up taking 20g of beta alanine one day and be in tingle town for dayz.
bulksupplements.com is a great place to get what you’re looking for. I’ve been buying creatine monohydrate from them for a while now.
