Medial elbow pain caused by rotational forces - without anything else to go on, is this more likely to be an expanded manifestation of the normal sort of bench related (extension) elbow pain or something new and different?
I have had some degree of the more typical elbow pain for years. In years past it caused serious disruptions to my training, but over the past 5 years or so with a more sensible approach I’ve limited its impact through the appropriate modification of load, tempo, ROM and exercise selection as needed.
The last few weeks though I have been feeling something different on the inside of my elbow. Thankfully little about my training induces it. I am approaching lifetime PR territory on bench and short of an occasional bad lift off that feels uncomfortable, it’s really only unimportant accessories that I can easily drop where I feel it at the gym e.g. face pulls, occasionally on lateral raises. More often though I feel it in normal activities outside the gym, like getting something out of the back of the fridge or if the dog suddenly pulls on his lead when we’re out for a walk.
At this point it is a level of discomfort I am happy to just ignore it, be careful to not do anything that makes it sore and hope it goes away by itself like most niggles. I am a conscious though of how close it is to a preexisting issue that can cause serious disruptions to training (and life) if it flares up again.
So, is this more likely related to the pre-existing elbow issue or new and unrelated, and if so does that change your thinking on how to manage it?
