Elbow pain

Whenever I bench or do any sort of bench press variation I tend to get some elbow pain when locking out. This pain sharpens after I’m done with every set. The pain is tolerable and I can continue throughout the workout, but it is really uncomfortable. The pain usually goes away an hour after I’m done with the workout. The pain is specifically targeted at the left elbow as well if that’s relevant. Do you have any suggestions as to how I can relieve the pain?

Have you tried elbow sleeves ? I pretty much like clockwise get elbow pain while benching or pressing if I don’t have my sleeves on.

Hey @Abrahammoe -
Thanks for the questions and sorry to hear about the elbow issue.

How old are you?

How long has this been going on? Has it occurred before and if so what was done previously?

Where on the elbow are you noticing symptoms (posterior, medially, laterally, or anterior)?

What’s training looked like recently?

Hi, thanks for answering @Michael_Ray

I’m 19 yrs old, the pain has been ongoing for 4 weeks now, I’ve never experienced any significant elbow pain previously, if any pain around the elbow area occured usually it just went away after a day.

Now that you mention it, the pain is really sharp around the medial head. There is some minor pain around the other areas as well, but it’s relatively small compared to the medial.

I’m currently running the Powerlifting 2 template as part of my current training routine.

Gotcha. Do you mean the medial insertion of the triceps? Or medial (inside) aspect of the elbow?

Either way I’d say try to manage loading to the area as best as possible to allow for tolerable training. This video will definitely help with that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdwj5ORPmX0

May take a little bit of time to get under control since it’s been ongoing for four weeks. The goal here should be tolerable loading where you aren’t getting the severe symptoms you are describing. It does sound like you are in a good spot though, since symptoms aren’t lasting after training or bleeding over into daily life. Keep us posted.
