My girlfriend has been complaining about bad posture and wanted me to check with the BBM team on what their recommendation, if any, would be. She reports that her shoulders/upper back are hunched forward and has been told by her doctor that this is exacerbated by scapular winging. One contributing factor is she has large breasts and she reports this weight on her front side pulls her shoulders forwards.
She is quite skinny, especially her upper torso: 5’ 5”, 115 lb. I have encouraged her to give barbell training a shot, both as an activity that could improve her general well-being by helping her acquire muscle and bone density, as well as to potentially help add some muscle to her upper back and improve her posture. She’s receptive to the advice and wants to hear more about if there’s a way to improve her posture via working out with weights.
The question: what would you recommend to someone who complains of bad posture? Is this anything that can be addressed, either entirely or in part, by lifting weights? Or does she need to just go to a chiropractor?
