Balancing strength training with military PT

I’m in the military and required to do physical training 5 mornings per week. MWF are run days of 3-4 miles with one (usually Wed) being a HIIT session. T and Th have been core training. I’ve been lifting in the evenings doing the Bridge. I can’t do much about the variability of the morning PT sessions, I just have to work around them. My question is when is it best to work in my lifting sessions, 1) in the evenings MWF, or 2) in the evenings T/TH/SAT?

In scenario 1) it would seem that I’d be able to maximize my recovery after lifting, but potentially would be lifting with tired legs. In scenario 2), I’d expect to have fresher legs for lifting but recovery would be less than optimal. Which sequencing would be best given strength gains are the priority?

Rmahn,

I think if you’re used to the AM PT sessions, I’d probably just lift weights in the evening and have T/Th/Sat completely off of formalized training. I would expect your training adaptations to be different in either scenario, however.

Thanks, Jordan! Will do as you recommend. Looking forward to running out the Bridge and moving to one of your other programs, such as general strength and conditioning
