Battle Ropes. I have them and used to use them but at some point it just got more tiring for my arms and upper back than any real cardio work. But I never stopped swinging. I just slowed my pace during rest periods. I’ve seen some videos where people actually stop and full rest between intervals. Which is the way? I was doing 20sec high and 140sec just slow paced but constantly swinging.
For anaerobic intervals, I would just rest completely between efforts. For aerobic intervals, I would do it slowly between efforts. I think if you’re using a 1:5 work to rest ratio you’re targeting anaerobic adaptations and thus, would rest between efforts.
I hope it’s ok to revive a 2 almost 3 month old topic. The intervals I have been doing for every method of HIIT I’ve done has been the 20sec high and 140sec rest. I actually just remembered I got this from the To Be a Beast article under the fluffy case study. 1: HIIT- 5 minute warm up, then 20s on: 140s off x 7 rounds, 10 minute cool down*. Except I upped it to 10 rounds to match the overall time required in the templates. However since i’m still doing the battle ropes as it’s my only means of HIIT during the winter months I feel the rest periods seem a tad longer than necessary.
Would there be a new time interval you would suggest for ropes? Like less rest more rounds in the same overall 30ish minutes? Or maybe accomplish the same amount of rounds in less overall time?
