BB II MEV/maintenance on lower body

Hello!

Im on week 15 of 3 day medium ISF.
It have been a good ride and I just came back from the gym doing a single sqt 135kg at a comfortable @8
(with my 3 year old PB being 132.5…) Nice

Question:
How to modify BB II 3-day or 4-day to stay at maintenance on leg/lower body?

Im on the ropes due to allergy season and have other acitivites planned for the next two months that are more taxing to lower body (martial arts). On top of that I have to be on a caloric deficit to adress my waist circumference and the inreased blood pressure that followed. Currently my upper body seems to tolerate a decent amount of volume but squats and DL really puts me down.

Regards
Christer

PS. It is kinda nice to have turned 52 and be stronger than I have ever been in my life and actually carrying a bit of muscle mass (a bit porky, but still …)

Christer,

Nice work on the squat. My preference would be for you to maintain the current volume and take weight off the bar as needed if you’re not feeling your best. I do not think being in an energy deficit requires (or benefits) a reduction in volume. I also don’t think that squats and deadlift volume need to go down while bench would be maintained for martial arts either. In other words, I probably wouldn’t make this change if I was coaching you personally.

If you wanted to do this and felt strongly about it however, I would probably consider reducing # of sets by 2 on all the lower body work across the template.

Let us know how it goes!
