I’m currently running BB II. I love the template so far but have had some trouble progressing lately on the later sets of exercises. For example, the template asks me to do a set of squats for 6-10 reps @ RPE 6, repeat the weight for 3 sets (RPE can go up to 8). I have been able to consistently get stronger on the first set but can’t get stronger and/or hit 10 reps @ desired RPE on the last set at nearly the same pace.
If I maintain the same load across the 4 sets, my first set ends up being too easy (RPE 5) but the last set too hard. This means I’m not able to increase the load due to being unable to get enough reps @ desired RPE on the final set. This is starting to become a bit of an issue on the 4th set of most exercises.
How do you suggest I work around this? Do I stay at the same weight and not worry about the first set possibly being too easy (under RPE 6)?
I’d plan on moving up now to ~ 195 or 200, then repeating the process. If would’ve pushed you to do 10 reps on set 4 on the 2nd workout so you could go up, but no biggie. I think rest periods are likely contributing to some fatigue on the latter sets. Would stretch them to 3.5 if possible.
Thanks for the feedback. Just to be sure that I’m understanding you correctly, when you say you would’ve pushed me to do 10 reps on set 4 on the 2nd workout, does this mean I can go slightly outside the RPE constraints just to get all of the required reps? I understand it’s not something I should consistently do but it should be fine in a plateau like this?
Yea, in that context I would’ve just sent it for the extra rep. It’s more of a judgement call vs a strict rule, but if you’re that close to completing all the reps…I’d just “send it” and get that last one.
