4-6 reps @ RPE 6. Repeat x 3 sets of 4-6 reps. RPE can go to 8. Once maxing out rep ranges on all sets, add weight the next week. Otherwise, aim to increase reps.
Is the programming’s intent to use the same weight for all sets and add reps to hit RPE 8? Or, can I can i progressively add weight each set?
There are also instances where it prescribes the same weight for the lift, but we can max out at 9RPE. Is the intent here to add reps to hit a higher RPE?
I know it probably doesn’t matter much as long as there are gains being made. But was hoping for a little insight.
Yes, this programming wants you to use the same weight for all sets. It doesn’t want you to add reps to the rep range (> 6 reps in this example). Rather, it wants you to complete all the reps you can without busting the RPE or rep constraints. Here, you’re capped at 6 reps across all sets, RPE 6 in the first set, and then RPE 8 in the subsequent sets.
Now, if someone were to get 4 reps on the first set @ RPE 6, they may be able to do 5 or 6 reps @ RPE 8 on the subsequent sets. That’s fine too and fits these rules.
Staying in the 4-6 repetition range is the other constraint, yes. If it helps, you are tasked with doing doing 4-6 reps every set. The first set MUST be RPE 6. All the other sets MUST be lower than RPE 8.
