Belt Recommendation 3” or 4”

Hello Docs,

I would appreciate it if you could me select the right size lifting belt. I am 6’1” 225lbs (46 years old) with a shorter torso and longer legs (long tibia) and arms. Mostly, I see serious lifters wear 4” wide belts, but there seems to be a rise in popularity of 3” belts due to SS. Recently, I was conversing with a gentleman from Best Belts and he recommended that I might want to try a 3” based on my shorter torso. Therefore, I appreciate hearing you recommend regarding belt size width and whether you feel the 3” belt would give enough support for the serious lifter.

Thank you and have a blessed day!
Paul

I would recommend a 4" belt for you, though it’s mostly personal preference.

Once the SS indoctrination has worn off, I’ve never seen someone prefer a 3" to 4" belt.

Thank you for your quick reply! So, you don’t recommend the advice of a 3” belt for Deadlift and 4” belt for squats?

Nope. Anecdotally, Leah is 5’5 on a good day and, upon switching to a 4" belt from a 3" belt, has hit all-time PRs in both the squat and deadlift.

Well, that’s great to know! Thanks for the reply!
